Ethics consultation services
Everyone, whether a patient, family member or provider, has the right to request an ethics consultation. Our ethics team provides a safe, respectful and neutral space to work through care decisions. They’ll offer guidance and support so decisions can be made with understanding and respect.
How we can help
- Complex or difficult medical decisions: Support for patients, families and care teams when goals of care are unclear or treatment options are complicated.
- Starting, continuing or stopping treatment: Guidance for decisions about limiting or continuing treatments, including at or near the end of life.
- Who makes decisions: Help when a patient’s wishes are unknown, unclear or when family members or providers disagree.
- Values, beliefs and consent: Help when cultural, religious or personal beliefs differ, or when there are questions about consent or advance directives.
- Other concerns: Support for questions about the appropriateness of certain treatments, use of limited resources or privacy and confidentiality.
