Internet Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes and governs the manner in which Nebraska Medicine (“Nebraska Medicine” or “us”, “we” or “our”) collects, uses, maintains and discloses information collected from users (each, a “User”) of its websites and mobile applications, including www.nebraskamed.com, certain affiliate websites and mobile applications linking to this Privacy Policy, and mobile applications offered under the Nebraska Medicine name that do not have a separate privacy policy (individually a “Site”, collectively, the “Sites”).

By using the Sites, you consent to the collection and use of your information in the manner we describe in this Privacy Policy. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH THESE TERMS, DO NOT USE THE SITES.

Your use of the Sites is at all times subject to the Nebraska Medicine Terms of Use which incorporate this Privacy Policy.

Our Sites do not provide medical advice. IN THE EVENT OF A MEDICAL EMERGENCY, GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM OR DIAL 911 IMMEDIATELY.

1. WHAT INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Information You Give Us
You may generally use the Sites without disclosing personally identifiable information.  However, use of certain features and functions of the Sites may require you to submit personally identifiable information to us.

In your use of the Sites, we may collect and store any information that you voluntarily share with us, such as name, email address and phone number. This information may also be collected and/or stored by a third party vendor, supplier or contractor on our behalf.   

Nebraska Medicine’s use and disclosure of certain of your information may be subject to the requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 and its implementing regulations ("HIPAA") and applicable state law. Any information that you submit to us that constitutes "Protected Health Information," as defined by HIPAA, is subject to HIPAA and applicable state law. The term "Protected Health Information" or "PHI" refers to individually identifiable health information about your past, present or future physical or mental health or condition, the provision of health care to you or the past, present or future payment for such care. If any information collected on our Sites constitutes PHI, then our Notice of Privacy Practices will apply.

Information We Collect Automatically
When you interact with our Sites, certain information about your use of our Sites is automatically collected. This information includes computer and connection information, such as statistics on your page views, traffic to and from our Sites, referral URLs, your IP address, and your browsing activity across other websites. We may also collect information regarding the mobile devices and mobile operating systems you use to interact with the Sites.

Much of this information is collected by us and any third party vendor acting on our behalf through cookies, web beacons and other tracking technologies, as well as through your web browser or device. A “cookie” is a piece of software stored on your computer or device to uniquely identify your browser or to store information or settings on your computer or device. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can disable this function so that your browser will not accept cookies. Please be aware that if you disable this function, it may impact your use and enjoyment of the Sites.

Certain applications may also use location services to provide location-based features. If you enable location services on your mobile device and grant permission for such applications to access this feature, we may collect your location via GPS in order to provide you with such features.

2. COMMUNICATIONS, NEWSLETTER AND RELATED SERVICES

Nebraska Medicine provides you opportunities to receive communications from us or third parties. For example, you can sign up for a free email newsletter. You can unsubscribe from this newsletter at any time.

3. HOW WE USE AND DISCLOSE INFORMATION COLLECTED

Personal Information
We use the information we collect for things like:

  • Optimizing and improving the performance and user experience of our Sites
  • Operating, evaluating and improving our business
  • Marketing and advertising products and services
  • Conducting research and analysis
  • Communicating with you about your account, special events, and surveys
  • Establishing and managing your accounts with us

We may disclose the information we collect from you with affiliated entities and third parties that we have engaged to help us provide services. We do not sell personal information that is collected from our Site’s visitors. 

We may disclose your information if required or permitted to do so for any or all of the following reasons: (i) to comply with a subpoena, legal process, government request or any other legal obligation; (ii) to prevent, investigate, detect, or prosecute criminal offenses or attacks on the technical integrity of our Sites or our network; and/or (iii) to protect the rights, privacy, property, business, or safety of Nebraska Medicine, its partners and employees, the visitors of our Sites, or the public.

Non-Personal Information
We may disclose your information in de-identified and aggregated form (information cannot be used to identify you) to third parties for any lawful business purpose.

4. THIRD PARTY WEBSITES

This Privacy Policy applies only to the Sites as provided by Nebraska Medicine. Nebraska Medicine has not reviewed any websites linked to our Sites and we are not responsible for the content of any such linked websites.  We will not, and are under no obligation to, investigate, monitor, or check any linked websites for accuracy, completeness, or appropriateness. IF YOU VISIT A WEBSITE VIA A LINK ON OUR SITES, WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO CONSULT THAT WEBSITE’S PRIVACY POLICY BEFORE PROVIDING YOUR INFORMATION.

5. SECURITY

We use secure socket layer (SSL) encryption to protect the transmission of information you submit to us when you use our secure online forms. All the information you provide us through these forms is stored securely offline. That being said, Nebraska Medicine cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, and you transmit information at your own risk.

6. DATA RETENTION

In general, we will retain all information collected through the Sites for, at a minimum, the length of time permitted by law. However, we will delete any personally identifiable information in our database upon your request or as otherwise required by law. We may retain non-personally identifiable information indefinitely. 

7. USERS FROM OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES

The Sites is only intended to be used by users in the United States. The Sites are hosted in the United States and are governed by United States law. If you are using the Sites from outside the United States, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored and processed in the United States where our servers are located and our central database is operated. By using the Sites, you consent to your information being transferred to our facilities and to the facilities of those third parties with whom we share it as described in this Privacy Policy. By providing your personal information, you are doing so at your own discretion.

8. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

Our Sites are not intended for use by minors and is not directed to children under age 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under age 13.

9. ACCESSIBILITY

10. CHANGES TO PRIVACY POLICY

We reserve the right to modify or amend this Privacy Policy at any time. All changes to this Privacy Policy will be effective immediately upon posting to the Sites.  Continued use of the Sites after the effective date of a modified Privacy Policy will indicate your agreement to any modified terms.  Each version of our Privacy Policy will be prominently marked with an effective date. As such, we encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically and to make note of the date of the most recent version.
