How do I clean the room after the patient leaves?

Items to stock in COVID-19 PPE cart

  • Yellow Isolation gowns
  • N-95 masks of all available sizes
  • Gloves
  • Face Shield or eye protection
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • PDI wipes (gray top)
  • Log of persons who enter the room
  • Extra linen bags and trash bags

Preparing the room

Remove from the room all items that cannot be wiped clean with a cloth

  • Magazines/books
  • Cloth chairs
  • Curtains
  • Non-essential patient supplies in cupboards

Gather necessary supplies for the room to minimize traffic

  • Specimen collection supplies, biohazard bags
  • Stethoscope, BP cuff etc…
  • Patient Home Quarantine Instructions

Cleaning Room checklist

  • Room should stay vacant for 1 hour before terminal clean is performed
  • Linen to be completely removed from the room after each patient according to routine procedures
  • Medical waste to be completely removed from the room and handled according to routine procedures

Items to Wipe: observing 3-minute wet time

  • All horizontal surfaces
  • Bed/exam table
  • Counters
  • Chairs
  • Wall mounted equipment (wipe each individual device and cord)
  • Walls around exam table
  • Cabinet handles
  • Drawer handles
  • Door handles
  • Sink handles and faucet
  • Sink basin
  • Computer, mouse and computer keyboard/computer stand
  • Light Switch
  • Items dedicated to the room (e.g., stethoscope, thermometer, BP machine and cuffs)
  • Reusable eyewear left in the room
