How Our Comprehensive Spine Program Works

We've created one, dedicated position staffed by a registered nurse, to get you to the right doctor for the treatment. The nurse will advise on what outside records to bring or send ahead of the visit, or if any diagnostic tests may be needed prior to your appointment.

How We Treat Neck, Back and Spine Pain

We offer a range of treatments that are likely to help your problem. We have specialized physical therapists to develop your core strength and teach you healthy body mechanics. We can treat pain and inflammation with medications, appropriate use of injections into the spine or joints, and even implanted devices for controlling certain types of chronic pain.  We have expert surgeons can offer procedures to relieve pressure on nerves or the spinal cord itself when needed.

Patient-centered Approaches

Whenever possible, we do our best to make patients well without surgery. Conservative measures will be tried first including anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy or referral to a rehabilitation or pain management specialist. Pain management may include therapies such as epidural steroid injections, trigger point injections, facet injections or nerve blocks. We want to determine what is important to you and help you achieve those goals whenever possible.

Team Approach to Care

Our highly trained team strives to deliver excellent care centered on your needs.

Whether you are coming to Nebraska Medicine for a recent spine issue, or to receive advanced treatment for a difficult or longstanding problem, we want to restore your function to its highest level possible. We accomplish this by offering a full range of outpatient evaluation and treatment options on site. If you need urgent imaging, we can do that. If you need an injection for pain, we can deliver that in a timely manner.

We use the least invasive treatments in order to restore maximum function. By offering a full range of diagnostic and treatment services, as well as surgical consultation services, each patient receives a customized course of treatment designed to improve your quality of life.

Surgical Techniques

Our spine surgeons treat all conditions from the common to the complex, with all techniques available including minimally invasive and advanced image-guided techniques. Smaller incisions may provide quicker recovery, shorter hospital stays and are generally safer. The best approach for your surgery is offered here including surgeries for scoliosis correction, motion-sparing procedures like disc replacements, cervical and lumbar problems, lateral lumbar fusions, infection treatment, trauma, and benign or malignant spine tumors.
