Comprehensive Team Approach

Staffed by experienced surgeons, scientists, biomechanical engineers and researchers, as well as dedicated nurses, therapists and support personnel, we provide a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach to care that enables us to treat every problem or injury that comes along, including acute trauma to the spine, chronic pain related to injury or trauma and structural problems.

A Range of Treatment Options

From bracing and surgical options to physical and occupational therapy, medication, injections and pain management, our back and spine specialists offer comprehensive treatment options for your pain. Our highly-skilled and experienced surgeons also specialize in complex spine surgery as well as minimally invasive spine procedures, which often produce less pain, fewer complications, less blood loss and shorter recovery times. Used whenever possible, some minimally invasive procedures allow surgeons to access the spine with a one and one-half inch incision rather than an 8- to 10-inch incision typical in traditional surgeries. We can also use spinal cord stimulation, which involves placing a device behind the spinal cord in the space between the bones of the spine and the covering of the spinal cord. The device delivers a low-voltage electrical stimulation to your spinal cord to block sensations of pain. The location of placement is specific to your area of pain. Unlike high doses of pain-relieving drugs, spinal cord stimulation will not cause you sedation, nausea, vomiting, sleep disturbance or dizziness and does not affect cognitive function. Surgery is recommended only after all other therapies have been exhausted.

Advanced Technology

Nebraska Medicine is the only hospital in the region to utilize the latest motion analysis diagnostic testing, or Gait studies. The computer analysis of motion assists physicians in diagnosing conditions and determining the best course of treatment.

Saving You Time

All care is coordinated in one central location, from diagnostics and pain management, to surgery and rehabilitation. The patient works directly with a nurse case manager who collects all of the necessary patient information and tests before an appointment is scheduled with the orthopaedic spine surgeon or neurosurgeon. In some cases, this may require ordering additional tests prior to the patient’s doctor visit.
