What if I’m not a candidate for LASIK?

While LASIK is the most commonly performed elective surgical procedure in all of medicine, not everyone may be a candidate. That’s why an evaluation process is used to help find the best, safest course of treatment. If you have any of these seven issues, LASIK may not be a good fit.

What are my laser vision correction options?

Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK)
A thin flap is created with a laser in the top layer of the cornea. The underlying tissue is reshaped by another laser.

Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK)
This procedure is an option for individuals with a thin cornea. The top surface of the cornea is gently removed and the underlying tissue is reshaped by a laser.

Contoura® Vision
This is topography-guided laser vision correction in which a highly personalized treatment is created. This treatment can be on LASIK or PRK eyes. Topography-guided laser vision correction is designed to optimize the surface of the cornea so that your quality of vision is the best it can be. Learn more about Contoura®

Small Incision Lenticular Extraction (SMILE)
This procedure is a solution for people with dry eyes and is the latest, least invasive procedure in laser vision correction. A thin, contact lens-shaped layer just beneath the surface of the eye is created and removed through a small incision on the cornea. Here are the differences between these two surgeries.

Are there alternatives to laser vision correction?

Yes, patients may also be candidates for these alternatives.

Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL)
This procedure is best for individuals who require a high degree of correction. It involves implanting a lens inside the eye beneath the iris to correct vision. If you have dry eyes, you may want to opt for ICL.

Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)
Unlike laser vision correction, your cornea remains intact with refractive lens exchange. Instead, the crystalline lens is removed and replaced with a man-made lens specific to your prescription.
