Early learning program 

Our early learning program offers early intervention services for birth through school age patients.  

The goal of the program is to promote the patient’s development throughout their hospital stay, and to support caregivers in building developmental opportunities into their daily routines.  

Within our early learning program, we will: 

  • Gather information about your child’s preferences and previous learning opportunities 
  • Provide information observation and formal assessment about your child’s developmental milestones 
  • Provide developmentally appropriate play sessions 
  • Share information about how your child learns, discuss ongoing developmental milestones, offer coaching and share strategies with you to encourage learning through everyday routines 
  • Help you get additional support services if needed, such as speech, physical or occupational therapies 
  • Celebrate your child’s accomplishments 
  • Work closely with the medical team 
  • With consent, refer children to early intervention programs within your home community 
  • With consent, implement IFSP or IEP objectives into a child’s care if medically able 

School age program 

The goal of our school age program is to enable patients to continue learning as they would in school. We promote normalization, stimulation, routine and responsibility while hospitalized. The program will be personalized to meet each child’s needs.  

Within our school age program, we will: 

  • Provide year-round academic support through direct instruction for K-12 students 
  • Collaborate with your home school district teachers, administrators and counselors 
  • Advocate for your child’s educational goals, needs and support related to their medical conditions 
  • Adapt assignments to fit medical conditions 
  • Provide remote learning support 
  • Referral to homebound services 
  • Facilitate parent, classmate and teacher communications if needed 
  • Share academic progress made during hospitalization with school personnel 
  • Work closely with the medical team to communicate academic progress 
  • Assist with school transition or reentry 
  • If requested, information about how to enroll siblings in local schools if your family is temporarily or permanently relocating
