Home Sleep Apnea Testing

The Nebraska Medicine Sleep Disorders Center offers home sleep apnea testing (HST) as an alternative service to an overnight attended sleep study. A home sleep apnea test is a modified version of the overnight study that focused mainly on nighttime breathing using fewer sensors and less parameters measured. This testing is generally used when your doctor has determined that you have a strong possibility of having mild to moderate sleep apnea (OSA) and meet the clinical indications below:

No Suspicion of Complex Sleep Disorders

  • Narcolepsy
  • Parasomnia
  • Central sleep apnea
  • Periodic limb movement disorder

No Co-morbid Conditions

  1. Moderate to sever pulmonary disease
  2. Neuromuscular or neurodegenerative disease

No Significant Cardiac Disease

  1. Uncontrolled cardiac arrhythmia
  2. Congestive heart failure
  3. Pulmonary hypertension

No History of Prior Stroke

Patients must be age 18 or older and insurance approval is required for home sleep apnea testing. For more information talk to your primary care provider and call the Nebraska Medicine Sleep Disorders Center at 402.552.2286
