At the Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, we go beyond curing a disease and begin to heal the human spirit by creating an atmosphere of hope and resilience. The Healing Arts program exists to create environments that support and comfort people through the diverse art opportunities and experiences.
The Healing Arts program is comprised of a growing list of elements to help reduce pain perception, anxiety, stress, loneliness and depression and to provide new insight and clarify feelings about a cancer diagnosis and treatment.
- Therapeutic art and music programs for patients
- Diverse art collection throughout the cancer center
- Rotating art exhibits
- “Search” by Omaha artist Jun Kaneko.
- Leslie’s Healing Garden
- Chihuly Sanctuary by Dale Chihuly
- “Joel Sartore: Photo Ark”
While our primary mission is to provide Nebraska Medicine patients with a holistic view of medicine, tours of the collection will be offered to the general public on Saturdays. We strive to help alleviate stress from Nebraska Medicine and University of Nebraska Medical Center staff and students by serving as a creative outlet for them. Docent led art tours will be offered to the general public on a first come first serve basis for 15 people from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Self-guided tours are unfortunately not allowed, so our patients can remain the primary users.
