Cardiac anesthesia
Our cardiac anesthesiologists have specialized training in monitoring the function of the heart during surgery. They use advanced heart-monitoring tools called transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and transthoracic echocardiography (TTE). These tools allow our anesthesiologists to measure the function of the heart. They also give them direct visualization of the chambers of your heart during the operation, along with your heart's valves and the major connecting vessels and veins that supply blood to the heart.
Our program also includes anesthesiologists who monitor heart patients using echocardiography during non-heart-related procedures. Their training and skills allow our surgeons to perform surgery on prior heart surgery patients for non-heart-related surgeries.
Cardiac intensive care
Our specially trained staff helps you recover from heart and heart and vascular procedures in dedicated intensive care units. This includes a 20-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and a 49-bed Cardiac Progressive Care Unit.
The most critically ill and complex patients receive care in our intensive care units. The progressive care unit provides an intermediate level of care to heart patients with a variety of diagnoses, including coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, myocardial infarction, angina and arrhythmias.
Care is provided to patients who have undergone open-heart surgery, heart catheterization/angioplasty, stents and heart transplants and have had pacemakers and defibrillators installed.
