Clarkson Heart Center joins Nebraska Medicine health network
For the last 17 years, Haysam Akkad, MD, and the team at Clarkson Heart Center have provided personalized and compassionate care to patients in our community who need the clinical expertise of interventional cardiology, cardiovascular disease and internal medicine. We are proud to announce that Clarkson Heart Center became part of the Nebraska Medicine health network on Dec. 15.
Under the leadership of Dr. Akkad, thousands of patients have been cared for since the center opened in 2008.
“I love the work I do,” says Dr. Akkad. “Cardiology is a very dynamic specialty. It is extremely rewarding to take care of patients when they are ill and follow them as they recover and get stronger.”
Throughout its history, Clarkson Heart Center has partnered with Nebraska Medicine to ensure patients receive comprehensive, expert care across the continuum, whether in the clinic setting or in the hospital.

Dr. Akkad currently leads a team of two physicians, Jitendra Pandya, MBBS, and Douglas Guy, MD. The clinic will welcome Natraj Katta, MD, in January, and Priya Dixit, MD, is expected to join the team in August 2026. Kiley Meyer, APRN, has been part of the care team at Clarkson Heart Center since 2012, and Kelli Harkness, DNP, joined the practice in October 2024. There are 18 additional team members currently being onboarded as Nebraska Medicine employees, and we will honor their years of service.
“The health care industry continues to change at a constant pace,” Dr. Akkad shares. “I feel the time is right to join Nebraska Medicine, which will give me personally more time to dedicate to the care of my patients.”
Clarkson Heart Center will continue to care for patients in their current location in the Clarkson Doctors Building South on the Nebraska Medical Center campus. They will retain the name and logo patients have come to know.
“Clarkson Heart Center has been a wonderful partner to us for many years,” says Tom Macy, vice president, Operations. “We look forward to officially welcoming them to the Nebraska Medicine family and working together to continue providing the high-quality care their patients have come to know."
