One Chart organ donation registration

You probably know that you can register to be an organ donor when updating your driver’s license at your local DMV, but there’s now an even easier way to make this life-changing impact.

Within minutes, Nebraska Medicine patients ages 18 and older can register to become an organ, eye and tissue donor through One Chart. One Chart is the secure patient portal that allows patients to view and manage their health information online or with a mobile app. Learn how to create an account here.

Here’s how it works

For those with an existing One Chart account, updating your donor status takes just minutes.

  • Desktop: Menu > My record > Health summary > Quick links > Organ donor registration
  • Mobile: Menu > Health summary > Organ donor registration (at bottom)

What you need to know

  • Nebraska Medicine staff do not have access to this information. The decision to donate does not show within a patient’s electronic health record, meaning organ registration status does not affect your medical care.
  • By registering to become an organ, eye and tissue donor through MyChart, a patient’s name is added to the Donate Life National Registry.
  • Nebraska’s First Person Authorization legislation ensures the decision to donate cannot be changed by anyone, such as a family member, after the person’s death. This legislation works the same way when someone registers to become a donor through the DMV.
