The goal of all treatment is to achieve the most relief possible for a patient’s given problem. Often this means pain relief, but can also include relief of weakness, numbness, malalignment, or prevention of further problems. Sometimes the best treatment means no surgery, or even prevention of unnecessary treatments. We work to create a program to help you overcome pain and improve your quality of life.

There are many causes for back and neck pain. However, the most common causes we see are conditions related to arthritis. We also see a wide variety of pain related to injuries, disc herniation, tumors, deformity, or failed surgeries. At Nebraska Medicine, we treat all conditions of the spine – from  neck to the pelvis. Some of these conditions include:

Degenerative Conditions

  • Arthritis
  • Spondylolisthesis
  • Disc disease
  • Spinal Stenosis

Deformity

  • Scoliosis
  • Kyphosis
  • Problems adjacent to previous fusion

Traumatic Injuries

  • Spinal fractures
  • Dislocations
  • Spinal cord injuries

Infections

  • Discitis
  • Epidural abscesses
  • Osteomyelitis

Tumors or Cancer of the Spine

  • May be primary tumors or metastatic disease from elsewhere

What you can expect at your first appointment

When you first come to us with symptoms, you can expect us to take a thorough history of your problem and hear your concerns. This is very important for an accurate diagnosis. We will help you define what your problems are and help you understand them. The next step is to perform a physical exam and interpret any imaging, along with its relative importance. Additional imaging will be ordered if deemed necessary. We will then provide our honest opinion of the problem, recommend the best treatment options, and discuss the potential risks and benefits. Our team approach to care
