Preparing For Oral Maxillofacial Surgery - Before Surgery Guide

Covid-19 considerations

Due to COVID-19, we are limiting visitors in our facilities.

  • Only one parent/guardian is allowed to accompany a minor
  • No additional individuals will be allowed in the facility
  • Once the procedure is reviewed and consent is obtained, we request that the escort wait in the car. Your escort should stay nearby for the duration of the procedure. We will notify the escort when the procedure is completed.
  • Following your COVID-19 test, please self-quarantine at home prior to your procedure

Important Pre-Operation Guidelines:

  • You cannot have anything to eat or drink - including water - after midnight the morning of your scheduled procedure.
  • Please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing; this will facilitate placement of monitors and starting your IV for your procedure.
  • Thoroughly brush your teeth the morning of your surgical procedure.
  • You will need to make arrangements for someone to accompany you for your procedure, they are needed to drive you home. This escort, along with your means of transportation, need to be present for your procedure to start. During the procedure, we ask that your escort wait in the car. Your escort should stay nearby for the duration of the procedure. We will notify them when the procedure is completed.
  • You will need to make arrangements for an adult to remain with you for the first 24 hours following surgery with sedation.
  • Consent for surgery of a minor (unmarried under the age of 19) will need to be obtained from a parent or legal guardian. If a minor will be accompanied by someone other than a parent or legal guardian, arrangements for informed consent must be made prior to the day of the surgical appointment. Please call the clinic at 402-559-5999 to make these arrangements.
  • If an adult lacks capacity to either make or to communicate consent for surgery, consent must be obtained from a legal guardian or durable power of attorney. If an incapacitated adult will be accompanied by someone other than those who can legally give consent for surgery, arrangements for informed consent must be made prior to the day of the surgical appointment. Please call the clinic at 559-5999 to make these arrangements.
  • Should you become ill within a week or less of your surgery appointment, please call our office immediately; it may be necessary to postpone your surgery.
