Comprehensive, patient-centered care at Plattsmouth Health Center
After seven years of serving the community as an Immediate Care Clinic, the Nebraska Medicine Plattsmouth Health Center, has now returned to offering comprehensive primary care to Plattsmouth and the surrounding area.
“There’s a big need for primary care providers in Plattsmouth and Cass County,” says family medicine provider doctor, James Simmons, MD. “I know a lot of people here are happy to have us, so they don’t have to go all the way up north to see a provider.”
Family medicine doctor, Haley Mathews, MD, agrees. “We’re getting patients not only from Plattsmouth, but from Nebraska City, Union, Murray and other towns in the area.”
Dr. Simmons adds that some patients are even coming from Iowa.
Comprehensive, patient-centered care at Plattsmouth Health Center
Plattsmouth Health Center now offers general family medicine, in addition to an X-ray suite and a lab, so patients don’t have to travel elsewhere for most services.
Currently, there are four providers serving patients of all ages which has helped reduce wait times. “It has a small-town clinic feel,” says Dr. Mathews. “Parking is easy, wait times aren’t long, and it’s convenient for patients.”
The center also offers access to social work, pharmacy, nutrition and behavioral health services to cover every aspect of your health.
“Because we’re still within the Nebraska Medicine system, we still have the same ability to communicate with all the specialists and refer our patients when we need to,” says Dr. Mathews.
“This clinic allows us to care for those in the area who didn’t have a lot of options for primary care before,” says Dr. Simmons. “If patients have transportation difficulties or other such complications with traveling for care, simply getting to a provider can be difficult.”
OB and pediatric care at Plattsmouth Health Center
One of the primary reasons behind expanding the services offered at the clinic was to give patients in the area better access to obstetrics and pediatric care. “I don’t believe there’s anyone else in the county who offers prenatal or OB care,” says Dr. Simmons.
Patients can stay close to home and see their primary care provider for all prenatal visits. “When you’re pregnant, you see the doctor frequently, often weekly, so it’s nice to have access to a provider nearby,” says Dr. Mathews. “Especially if you have any concerns.”
“Then, when it’s time to deliver, patients can go to Nebraska Medical Center where our excellent team of labor and delivery specialists can ensure they have good, safe access to great delivery care,” says Dr. Simmons.
After delivery, patients can return to the Plattsmouth site for primary care. “We can see the baby, the mom and the whole family, so patients can keep all their visits in one clinic rather than having to go to different places,” says Dr. Simmons.
