Leadership development and Fall Retreat

• Residents lead discussions on selected articles or videos that focus  on leadership philosophies and principles from politics, the military, history, coaching, finance, medicine, and pharmacy
• Residents offer insights and perspectives on each article or video and are encouraged to deepen their self-reflection skills throughout the year
• Residents explain how they plan to incorporate leadership philosophies, practices, and principles as a future pharmacy roles. These may include providing bedside patient care as part of a multidisciplinary team or serving as a coordinator, residency program director, manager, director, or chief pharmacy officer. This strategy is used to assist residents in taking the first step in continuous leadership development.

• Since 1999, the annual fall retreat continues to be one of the many highlights of the residency program
• The two-day retreat occurs at the Lied Lodge in Nebraska City, NE, nestled on picturesque grounds once owned by J. Sterling Morton, founder of Arbor Day
• A variety of topics are covered such as pharmacy leadership pearls, gratitude, values, StrengthsFinder®, reflection, and feedback
• This is a perfect venue for residents to develop effective team-building skills, enhance well-being, and strengthen friendships
