If you have a patient struggling with substance use and other mental health concerns, consider the Nebraska Medicine Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for further assessment and treatment.

“Patients suffering from co-occurring disorders often benefit from a more comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to care” says Sara Zachman, MD, MPH, IOP medical director. Dr. Zachman explains the program aims for a whole-person approach to address everything from coping skills and healthy thinking to medication and relapse prevention. 

“Our program is rooted in an evidence-based curriculum and made up of a team of compassionate and skilled providers.”  She adds “the program entails a combination of individual and group therapy, as well as medications as indicated.”

The Nebraska Medicine IOP is unique to the region and features a team of psychiatric providers, clinical therapists, nurses, and care staff with experience in the assessment and treatment of substance use and other psychiatric disorders. 

Comprehensive and specialized care supports long-term recovery through:

  • Group therapy
  • Individual therapy
  • Random urine drug screenings (UDSs)
  • Medication support for co-occurring disorders
  • Streamlined access - both in-person and telehealth services

Who Should Be Referred? 

  • Adults 19 years and older with a substance use and mental health struggles
  • No immediate withdrawal management or residential treatment needs
  • Individuals requiring more than weekly or monthly outpatient support
  • Note: No chemical dependency (CD) evaluation required
