You would be hard pressed to find an area of Nebraska Medicine that the Guest and Volunteer Services Program has not touched. Transplant patients, in particular, have come to depend on a variety of services provided by volunteers. In fact, families from all over the world are often pleasantly surprised by how our volunteers make them feel more at home in Omaha.
Transportation volunteers help make staying in an unfamiliar city much easier for families with or without their own transportation. Volunteers help ease the stress for patients and their caregivers by offering transportation to and from Eppley Airport, the Amtrack Train Station, the bus terminal and Nebraska Medical Center.
- This volunteer service is available between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., seven days a week depending on volunteer availability
- Arrangements are made through Volunteer Services, Monday through Friday during regular business hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Please allow a minimum of 24-hours’ notice to finalize transportation arrangements
- Volunteers drive guests of Nebraska Medical Center for a weekly shopping trip to a selected area store for necessities and comforts of home
Our volunteers are committed to serving the patients, families, visitors, staff and providers of Nebraska Medicine by providing essential non-medical support. Volunteers are a friendly face and a ready ear to help pass the time with patients and their families during their visits to the medical center.
Look Good... Feel Better
In conjunction with the American Cancer Society, volunteers offer sessions that teach beauty techniques to women to help them manage the appearance related side effects of cancer treatment. Look Good … Feel Better sessions are open to all women with cancer who are undergoing chemotherapy, radiation or other forms of treatment.
A licensed cosmetologist trained in skin care techniques, makeup application and the use of, wigs and accessories helps lead the session. A complimentary kit of cosmetics valued at more than $200 is given to each registered participant.
