Support for transplant patients

Volunteer Services

You would be hard pressed to find an area of Nebraska Medicine that the Guest and Volunteer Services Program has not touched. Transplant patients, in particular, have come to depend on a variety of services provided by volunteers. In fact, families from all over the world are often pleasantly surprised by how our volunteers make them feel more at home in Omaha.

Companionship

Our volunteers are committed to serving the patients, families, visitors, staff and providers of Nebraska Medicine by providing essential non-medical support. Volunteers are a friendly face and a ready ear to help pass the time with patients and their families during their visits to the medical center.

Look Good... Feel Better

In conjunction with the American Cancer Society, volunteers offer sessions that teach beauty techniques to women to help them manage the appearance related side effects of cancer treatment. Look Good … Feel Better sessions are open to all women with cancer who are undergoing chemotherapy, radiation or other forms of treatment.

A licensed cosmetologist trained in skin care techniques, makeup application and the use of, wigs and accessories helps lead the session. A complimentary kit of cosmetics valued at more than $200 is given to each registered participant.

New Hearts Transplant Support Group

This group is for all transplant recipients, potential recipients or their families. The group meets periodically throughout the year. For more information, talk with a transplant coordinator or email NebraskaNewHearts@gmail.com.
