WaveLight® Plus: Vision correction tailored to you
Nebraska Medicine offers WaveLight® Plus, a new technology used to improve outcomes with LASIK or PRK laser eye surgery. WaveLight Plus uses advanced imaging and ray-tracing, which measures how light travels through your eye, to build a detailed 3D eye model. Your surgeon uses this information to plan a precise treatment personalized for you. This level of precision helps many patients see better than 20/20.
What is WaveLight® Plus technology
WaveLight Plus is not a separate surgery. It works with LASIK or PRK to give your surgeon more accurate information for treatment planning. Capturing detailed measurements of your eye, it helps guide each step of the procedure for a more precise result. This added level of personalization can result in vision that is better than current techniques and may also reduce side effects like glare or halos at night.
How does WaveLight Plus work
An imaging device scans your eyes and collects precise measurements. Those measurements build the 3D model your surgeon uses to plan your LASIK or PRK procedure. About 98% of patients achieve 20/20 vision, and the majority of patients see even better, reaching 20/16 vision or more.
Planning your first visit
If you have never had eye surgery before, your first visit is a free screening to see if you are a candidate for WaveLight Plus. You will have several tests and measurements to confirm whether both eyes are suitable. If you are a candidate, your provider will review the benefits and possible risks. If you choose to move forward, you will schedule a preoperative visit with your refractive surgeon. During that second visit, your eyes are dilated, additional measurements are taken, and your plan is finalized. Your provider will also review your current medications and any eye drops you use.
Why choose Nebraska Medicine for WaveLight Plus
Nebraska Medicine was the first in Nebraska and the first university medical center in the United States to offer WaveLight Plus technology, giving patients access to the newest and most advanced technique for laser eye surgery. All our refractive surgeons are board-certified and fellowship-trained in refractive surgery.
