You may notice as you age that your neck is beginning to wrinkle and crease, or that your profile is not the same as it once was. Commonly referred to as a not-so-glamourous “turkey neck,” this sagging can be bothersome. A neck lift can help.

A neck lift is usually an outpatient procedure that takes several hours. You may be given general anesthesia which causes you to sleep during the procedure, or local anesthesia with sedation to numb and relax you. Your surgeon will make small incisions behind and near the ears, as well as a small incision under the chin. Extra skin and fat are removed, the sagging muscles are re-suspended, or re-shaped, and the incisions are closed.

As with any surgical procedure, pain, bruising and swelling may occur. This will typically subside in a few weeks following the procedure.

What to expect

At your first visit, you will meet with your surgeon to discuss your concerns and goals with neck lift. You will talk about your medical history, general health and other factors that may impact your results. You’ll leave your consultation fully educated about what to expect during and after surgery, payment options and more, so that you can make a decision that is right for you.
