High-risk colon cancer screening

Some people need earlier or more frequent screening based on their health history.

You may be at higher risk if you:

  • Have a family history of colon or rectal cancer.
  • Have a history of colon polyps.
  • Have inflammatory bowel disease.
  • Have a hereditary cancer syndrome or genetic mutation like Lynch syndrome, FAP or other gene changes that increase your risk for cancer.

You may need:

  • Screening before age 45.
  • More frequent screening.
  • Colonoscopy instead of stool-based tests.
