Targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR) is a surgical procedure that reconnects nerves that have been severed during an amputation. Nerves left unconnected can cause severe pain (including phantom pain) for amputees, so this procedure is key to their recovery. TMR can be done at the time of amputation or post amputation.
