RESEARCH

Dr. Armstrong’s career in cornea and refractive surgery was launched as a fellow at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, where he trained under the current Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Truhlsen Eye Institute, Dr. Ron Krueger. After his fellowship, he practiced with the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Group in Washington, DC, and was promoted to Assistant Chief of the Department of Ophthalmology. In 2014, Dr. Armstrong was given the opportunity to open an Eye Institute with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. Under his leadership, the department grew tremendously and served as the main complex ophthalmic referral hospital in the region.

Dr. Armstrong became a regional expert in the management of keratoconus and other corneal disorders which are endemic in the Middle East. He and his colleagues started a school screening program to detect keratoconus in adolescent children, which facilitated early detection and treatment. Dr. Armstrong returned to the US in 2022, where he currently serves as the Director of Cornea and Refractive Surgery at Truhlsen Eye Institute. Dr. Armstrong brings his innovative spirit and extensive knowledge of advanced diseases, techniques and technology to care for patients with corneal disease and cataracts here in Nebraska and neighboring states.
