Nebraska Medicine offers 3 types of pain programs

Dealing with pain is an intensely personal, often frustrating journey for patients. We know the treatment needs to be highly tailored to your experience. So even when we're talking about something as seemingly universal as pain, we have three programs which all operate cooperatively.
Comprehensive Spine Program
When your pain seems to center around your neck or back, call the Comprehensive Spine Program at 800.922.0000. This program includes specialists from across Nebraska Medicine, with offices at a variety of locations. A specially trained nurse will answer your call, ask you some questions about your pain, and book you an appointment with the most appropriate doctor if that’s how you’d like to proceed. Pain Management

“We commonly see patients with chronic low back pain, neck pain, abdominal or pelvic pain, cancer pain and even whole body pain,” said Madhuri Are, MD, who oversees the Pain Management Program. “Some of the patients have seen people in other specialties, like in the surgical specialty, and if they’re not deemed a surgical candidate, they may come to see us. And some patients are referred to us by their primary care provider to provide the first option for pain control as well,” she adds. She says her team strives to educate patients on how to use and quit using pain medication, as well as managing pain using massage, and other options. The Pain Management Program offers some procedures the same day you come in for an assessment and will see patients as needed, at one of four locations. Are discusses in this video some of the specific techniques and tools the program uses to help you.
Chronic Pain Management
For those who want to learn more medication free methods of lessening or coping with chronic pain, Nebraska Medicine offers the Chronic Pain Management Program.
It is a four week process that teaches patients healthy ways to cope with chronic pain, such as how to use exercise to alleviate some of your pain. If medications, injections, physical therapy and chiropractic services have failed in managing your pain, you may be a candidate for the Chronic Pain Management Program.
