Nebraska Medicine offers a range of additional support programs, including diabetes management through Vida, maternity care with UMR, smoking cessation resources, digital physical therapy via SWORD Health and weight management options. 

Treat muscle, joint and pelvic pain through virtual physical therapy

Nebraska Medicine employees can access three new digital physical therapy programs through Sword Health. These virtual offerings are designed to address various needs and are fully covered at no cost to you.

Who can enroll:

  • Employees, spouses and dependents enrolled in a Nebraska Medicine medical plan.
  • Thrive or Move: Dependents must be 13 or older.
  • Bloom: For females 18 or older.

Manage and overcome joint, back, or muscle pain with a personalized physical therapy program. Work with a licensed doctor of physical therapy, complete your sessions using a provided tablet and receive real-time feedback from the comfort of your home. Learn more.

Address pelvic pain, bladder leakage, bowel dysfunction and more with the guidance of a pelvic health specialist from the privacy of your home. It is designed for women at all life stages, including pregnancy, postpartum and menopause. Learn more.

Designed to help you build sustainable activity habits and prevent future pain, Move is guided by a physical health specialist. Whether seated or on your feet all day, this whole-body program can help you stay active and pain-free. Learn more.

Prevent and manage diabetes

Vida Health is a virtual health program available through your Nebraska Medicine medical plan. There’s no one-size-fits-all way to manage or prevent diabetes. If you, or a covered dependent, are living with diabetes, Vida can help. The full cost of the program is covered by Nebraska Medicine.  

Who can enroll:

Vida Health is available at no cost to Nebraska Medicine colleagues and covered family members (age 19 and older) enrolled in a Nebraska Medicine medical plan. You may qualify if you meet any of the following criteria: 

  • You’re taking a GLP-1 for weight loss.
  • You have diabetes or prediabetes.
  • Your BMI is over 25.
     

Comprehensive support:

  • Weekly one-on-one video calls with your care team, including a health coach, diabetes specialist and/or registered dietitian.
  • Unlimited private messaging with your health coach and support groups.
  • A nutrition and wellness plan aimed at a healthy A1C.
  • Easy tools to track food, exercise and blood sugar.

Vida Health supports the whole person, not just the condition. The program helps manage diabetes by addressing physical, behavioral and emotional health needs together. It’s designed to work alongside your in-person care and can be used as part of your current care plan.  

  • Beginning Aug. 1, 2025, you can visit www.vida.com/nebraskamedicine to create an account and answer some questions about yourself* and your health. You can also download the Vida app to your mobile device.

Comprehensive smoking cessation support

Take the first step towards a smoke-free life with our comprehensive support and resources. Our Smoking Cessation Program is designed to help Nebraska Medicine colleagues, spouses and dependents stop smoking and improve their overall health.

This free program is offered to all Nebraska Medicine colleagues, spouses and dependents.

  • Access to one-on-one and group counseling sessions through the Outpatient Pharmacy at Durham Outpatient Center.
  • Counseling combined with quit aids to support your journey to quit smoking.
  • Up to $250 reimbursement for FDA-approved nicotine replacement products with certificate of completion and receipts.

Nebraska Medicine colleagues, spouses and dependents enrolled in a medical plan have access to nicotine cessation coverage.

  • Nicotine cessation services and therapy are covered for enrolled members.
  • Up to eight visits with a primary care physician are covered as a preventive benefit.
  • Coverage for prescription and over-the-counter nicotine cessation products (e.g., Chantix®, Nicoderm ® CQ, Zyban ®, Nicorette ® gum). 

Navigate Medicare with SmartConnect

Nebraska Medicine offers a free service to help you and your family members navigate Medicare with confidence. Whether you’re continuing to work or preparing for retirement, SmartConnect offers personalized support, plan comparisons and enrollment guidance.

SmartConnect is available to anyone who is eligible for Medicare--including colleagues, retirees, spouses, children, parents and even neighbors. In addition to helping you navigate the Medicare Program, SmartConnect offers information and guidance on plans that supplement Medicare Part A and Part B.

  • Personalized guidance: Understanding your health care needs to help you make informed decisions.
  • Expert plan comparisons: Unbiased insights from national insurance carriers.
  • Simplified enrollment process: Licensed insurance agents assisting when you're ready.
  • Ongoing support: Help with questions, policy reviews and coordination with insurance providers.
  • Cost and coverage evaluation: In some cases, Medicare supplement plans may cost less than employer-provided insurance.
  • Flexible options: Whether you’re working, planning to retire or helping a parent or a friend who is eligible for Medicare, SmartConnect ensures your choices fit your situation.
  • No obligation assistance: A completely free service with no pressure to enroll in supplemental Medicare coverage.

Expanded Support for Family Planning, Fertility and Menopause

Beginning Jan. 1, 2026, we’re expanding our health benefits to better support colleagues across every stage of life -- from fertility and pregnancy to parenting, menopause and midlife. We’re partnering with Progyny, a leading provider of reproductive and family-building benefits.

Tools to help you lose weight

Nebraska Medicine medical benefits provide a variety of weight-management tools to help you reach your goals, including nutrition support, activity tracking, personal coaching and meal replacement options. Whether you're working toward long-term changes or just getting started, these resources are here to support you along the way.

New Direction meal replacement program

Achieve your weight-loss goals with the New Direction nonsurgical weight-loss program. Employees and spouses covered under a Nebraska Medicine medical plan can take advantage of exclusive discounts and financial support.

  • Medical monitoring: Includes lab work and regular visits with a health care provider.
  • Customizable meal plans: Choose between two meal plans to meet your needs.  
    • A low-calorie diet for gradual, steady weight loss. This typically includes bars and shakes for two of three meals a day.
    • A very low-calorie diet for intense, rapid weight loss. It's a complete vacation from food, so you can set aside worrying about cooking food for yourself while you learn the mental game of eating to optimize your health.
  • Meal replacements: Enjoy a variety of high-protein shakes, puddings, soups and bars, providing 100% of your daily vitamin and mineral needs. The cost of the meals averages between $63 to $100 per week, depending on the program and a person's specific plan.
  • Supportive education: Weekly group sessions focus on nutrition, exercise and behavior changes, with regular weight and blood pressure monitoring.
  • Reduced start-up fee: Employees and spouses pay only $75 to join the program, compared to the usual $150 fee.
  • 10% discount on meal products: Receive 10% off all meal replacement products, with the option of using HSA or FSA funds for purchases.
  • $250 reimbursement: After completing the program and reaching your goal weight, you can receive up to $250 per year for meal replacement products. Submit your certificate of completion to the HR Service Center to qualify.
     

Vida Health

Vida Health is a digital platform that offers personalized health programs and one-on-one support from an expert health coach, all through an easy-to-use mobile app and website.

Vida Health is available at no cost to Nebraska Medicine colleagues and covered family members (age 19 and older) enrolled in a Nebraska Medicine medical plan. You may qualify if you meet any of the following criteria: 

  • You’re taking a GLP-1 for weight loss.
  • You have diabetes or prediabetes.
  • Your BMI is over 25.*

*To access GLP-1s on the Nebraska Medicine medical plan, they must be prescribed by a Nebraska Medicine provider, filled at a Nebraska Medicine pharmacy, and colleagues must enroll in Vida and engage monthly to maintain access. 

When you sign up with Vida Health, you’ll be asked to share your health goals and preferences. Vida will use that information to tailor a program to your needs, and you will select a coach to support you along the way. The program will include helpful resources like: 

  • Videos
  • Lessons
  • Recipes
  • Easy progress-tracking tools

You will also be able to connect any fitness trackers or health devices you use.

  • Nutrition, including support for specialized diets (gluten-free, paleo, vegan, keto, and more).
  • Exercise and strength training.
  • Coping with stress.
  • Improving sleep.
  • Managing diabetes, blood pressure or cholesterol.
  • Tackling pre-diabetes or other risk factors to prevent a chronic disease.
