Nebraska Medicine supports your career journey
Our policy recommends staying in your current role for at least six months before applying for a new one. However, we know each situation is different. If you're considering a move sooner, talk with your leader, as exceptions can sometimes be approved.
Open conversations with your leader help us support your career goals and connect you with the right opportunities.
Steps to take before you apply
• Why are you thinking about a change?
• Do your skills and goals match the role you want?
• What support or resources would help you succeed?
- Visit the Internal Careers Hub in Workday. From the homepage, click “Find Jobs.”
- Consider a job shadow to learn more about another department.
- Talk with colleagues and expand your network within Nebraska Medicine.
- Use the Career Pathways Hub to prepare for your conversation.
- Meet with your leader to share your goals and get approval (required if you’ve been in your role for less than six months).
- Ask about career development tools, workshops, and mentorship programs. You can also set up an appointment with a career navigator.

Additional resources for internal transfers
These resources are here to help you prepare, apply, and succeed during the internal transfer process.
- Update your resume: Make sure it shows your current role, skills, and any new certifications.
- Highlight internal experience: Include the projects and teams you have worked on at Nebraska Medicine.
- Prepare for interviews: Review the job posting, practice your answers, and think about how your skills fit the new role.
- Transfer eligibility: Most colleagues need to be in their current role for at least six months before applying. You must also be in good standing. Which means you have not received a second or final corrective action in the past six months. If you’re considering a move sooner, talk with your leader.
- Pay and benefits: A transfer may affect pay or benefits. Review the details carefully before applying.
- Timeline expectations: Internal moves take time. Plan for a transition period so both your current and new team can adjust.
