The NextGen Careers in Health Care program is a partnership between Nebraska Medicine, Clarkson College, and Omaha Public Schools to help students take their first steps toward a career in health care. This program offers high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to work in entry-level health care roles while receiving academic and career support.

Students have the opportunity to apply for entry-level health care positions, including:
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- Medical Receptionist
- Pharmacy Technician
- IT Warehouse Associate
Nebraska Medicine hires students twice a year:
- Spring cohort
- Apply in April
- Interviews and onboarding May to June
- Fall cohort
- Apply in September
- Interviews and onboarding October to November

How it works
The NextGen Careers in Health Care program is designed to give students real job experience while they are still in high school. Here’s what to expect:
Apply and get hired
Fill out an online application and interview for a paid, entry-level job with Nebraska Medicine. No experience needed – just a willingness to learn!
Start your paid job
Once hired, you’ll work a real health care job with flexible hours that fit your school schedule. Get hands-on experience while earning a paycheck.
Get support and training
Get on-the-job training and mentorship from health care professionals. Learn valuable skills and gain work experience that sets you up for the future.
Build your future
After the program, keep working, apply for new roles or continue your education with support from Nebraska Medicine and Clarkson College.

No! This program is designed to give students their first experience in the health care field. Clarkson College and Nebraska Medicine provide training, and students will have mentors to help them along the way.
Yes! This is a paid position, just like any other job at Nebraska Medicine.
Students work part-time shifts that fit around their school hours. Shifts vary by department, and some students may work after school, on weekends, or during school breaks.
Yes! If you’ve taken health science courses, you may qualify for work-based learning credit.
Many students continue working at Nebraska Medicine after graduation or use their experience to pursue further education in health care. This program is a great first step toward a long-term career.
