U.S. News ranks Nebraska Medical Center No. 1 in Nebraska for 12th straight year

#1 for 12 - Nebraska Medical Center: The best hospital in the state for 12 years straight.

Every year, U.S. News & World Report evaluates more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide to develop their annual list of Best Hospitals. They look at things like clinical outcomes, level of nursing care and patient experience in developing these rankings. Again, Nebraska Medical Center is the No. 1 rated hospital in the Omaha metro area and the state of Nebraska. In addition, our Ear, Nose and Throat program achieved a national ranking. Three other specialties were listed as high performing—those are:

  • Cancer
  • Gastroenterology & GI Surgery
  • Orthopaedics

Twelve procedures and conditions were rated as high performing, the highest ranking possible:

  • Aortic valve surgery
  • Colon cancer surgery
  • Diabetes
  • Heart attack
  • Heart failure
  • Kidney failure
  • Knee replacement
  • Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma
  • Ovarian cancer surgery
  • Pneumonia
  • Prostate cancer surgery
  • Uterine cancer surgery

“Achieving ‘Best Hospital’ status doesn’t happen by accident,” says James Linder, MD, CEO of Nebraska Medicine. “It’s the result of all the hard work of all the incredibly talented people who work here. I’m proud to call each one of them my colleagues and to congratulate them on continuing to provide such an incredibly high level of care to our patients.”

The annual Procedures & Conditions ratings are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures.

“For 34 years, U.S. News has provided data-informed rankings to help patients and their doctors find the best hospital to treat their illness or condition,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News. “Fewer than half of evaluated hospitals earned any High Performing rating. Hospitals that are High Performing have excelled in providing high quality care in specific procedures and/or conditions.”
