Neurological Sciences Specialty Unit
The neurological sciences specialty unit provides expert multidisciplinary nursing care and interventions to patients. Patients and their families are involved in the care planning and discharge planning process to ensure smooth patient transition to their home or care facility.
The neurological sciences specialty unit is a newly renovated state-of-the-art unit with private rooms. The rooms have cardiac and invasive monitoring capabilities. The rooms are designed not only to maximize efficiency but also provide a warm and healing environment for patients.
Registered Nurses are accountable for all areas of patient care and are assisted by a patient care technicians, lead nurses, case managers, clinical nurse specialists, and clinical education coordinators. Dedicated physical therapists, occupational therapists, clinical dieticians, and pharmacists are all part of the multidisciplinary team. All members of the multidisciplinary team partner with our highly-specialized neurologists and neurosurgeons in effort to produce positive patient outcomes.
The neurological sciences specialty unit provides care to patients who have a variety of neurological diagnoses including stroke, epilepsy, spinal cord injury and trauma. Nurses are Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified. Nurses receive specialized training to manage cardiac/invasive monitors, titratable cardiac drips, ventriculostomy drains, halo traction, stroke and epilepsy patients.
