John Y. Um, MD is an assistant professor of surgery for the section of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery and is a cardiothoracic transplant surgeon. Dr. Um received his medical degree from Brown University School of Medicine, Providence, Rhode Island. He completed his residency in general surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey in New Brunswick, NJ and his cardio-thoracic surgery residency at the University of California San Francisco, CA. Dr. Um completed a fellowship in thoracic transplantation and mechanical assist devises at Duke University School of medicine in Durham, NC. His areas of interest include; heart transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, surgical therapies for heart failure, adult cardiac surgery and coronary and valvular heart disease.
