The Stroke Center

As the only nationally certified stroke center dedicated to the management and prevention of stroke in Nebraska, you can be sure that our specially trained stroke team at The Nebraska Medical Center will provide you or your loved one the most appropriate and expert care available. The stroke program at The Nebraska Medical Center is the first stroke center in the state to receive certification from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), a nationally and internationally recognized leader in health care quality evaluation.

Prompt and appropriate care is crucial in treating acute stroke patients and preventing long-term disability. Studies show that those patients who are treated within a few hours of an acute stroke using specialized treatments and medications at the hands of a dedicated and coordinated team of physicians and health providers experience the most positive outcomes.

The stroke center team is specially trained to use a well-defined, systematic approach to care and treatment to achieve optimal results. Patients are systematically evaluated in the emergency department by a dedicated and coordinated stroke team 24 hours/7 days a week for potential life-saving therapies. Patients with stroke are admitted to a dedicated stroke unit where all nurses have been trained and certified in stroke monitoring to administer the latest and most appropriate treatments. The quality and delivery of care is constantly reviewed and updated to ensure the highest quality performance and outcomes.
