Psychological Intervention
Group Therapy
Participants in the Pain Management Program are provided an average of 10 group
therapy sessions per week. Most of the group therapy is delivered in a psycho-educational
format; however, some of the group sessions are also psychotherapeutic and supportive
in orientation. Group sessions cover a wide variety of important issues that impact
people with chronic pain including:
- Pain treatment choices
- Pain self-management
- Goal setting strategies
- Stress management
- Relaxation training
- Cognitive-behavioral interventions
- Assertiveness
- Acceptance and lifestyle change
- Sleep hygiene
- Sexual issues
- Anger management
- Relapse prevention
