Pain Management Program

Program Details

The Pain Management Program is a four-week program, running Monday through Friday. The program day begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. On Friday, the program runs from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Please allow adequate travel time to arrive just prior to the start of the program day.

Attendance

The potential for significant benefit for positive change in a patient’s life is based on a skill development model. Due to the progressive nature of the skill development, attendance is required for all sessions for the most productive results.

Location

The Pain Management Program is located on The Nebraska Medical Center’s main campus in the Special Services Pavilion (SSP) 4350 Emile Street, 5th Floor.

Parking is available in the green parking structure just west of the Durham Outpatient Center. Visitors may park in this structure or utilize the free hospital valet service. The valet service is in the main entrance of the Durham Outpatient Center.

Lodging

Patients living outside the Omaha area can either stay with family or friends in town or make arrangements through the Pain Management Program secretarial staff to have a room provided for them on The Nebraska Medical Center's campus. Rooms are provided on an “as needed” basis and are chosen upon their availability. The Potter’s House is the primary location for our patient rooms; however, if there is not a room available at the Potter’s House, accommodation will be made for patients to stay at the Nebraska House until a room becomes available at the Potter’s House. Patients may stay in other facilities, at their own expense.

Meals

The noon meal is provided for all patients participating in the full program. Patients receive a meal ticket that is accepted at the University or Clarkson Hospital cafeterias. Patients are given a one-hour break to eat. The therapy program will resume at 1 p.m. Morning and evening meals are the responsibility of the patient (unless the patient is a guest at the Potter’s House, in which case the meals are provided.)

Clothing

Patients are encouraged to wear loose fitting clothing appropriate for exercising. Tennis shoes or other soft-soled shoes are recommended. Patients will also need a swimming suit or other clothing appropriate for aquatic exercise.

What to Bring

  • Swimming suit or something to wear in the exercise pool
  • Loose fitting clothes appropriate for exercising
  • Athletic shoes
  • Spending money for miscellaneous items
  • All medications in original bottles, including over the counter medications

ATTENTION: Please remember to bring medications to the Pain Management Program and present them to the nursing staff. Do not arrive without medications and expect prescriptions to be filled immediately. The medication program takes time to initiate. Depending on each specific situation, these issues may not be addressed and each medication program may not be in place until the end of your first week in the program.

Optional Items

  • Digital watch / stop watch for keeping track of exercise times
  • Gym bag
  • Pool shoes/ pool socks
  • Reading material

Smoking

In compliance with the Nebraska Clean Air Act and customary Nebraska state fire regulations, smoking is restricted to certain areas of the campus. Smoking breaks will be permitted.

Financial Arrangements/Insurance Authorization

The Coordinator of Pain Program Admissions will be available to assist the patient with insurance authorization/financial arrangement questions. It is ultimately the responsibility of the patient to understand their insurance coverage and verify any authorization/admittance requirements prior to beginning the treatment program.
