Pain is a very subjective and personal experience, but it is also very real. Left untreated, chronic pain can become physically disabling, leading to depression, loss of sleep, missed work days and decreased physical functioning. The good news is that with proper  management, chronic pain is very treatable. The Nebraska Medical Center uses the newest, most advanced and comprehensive approaches to managing pain so that no one should have to suffer from disabling chronic pain anymore.

Help for all types of pain

The Nebraska Medical Center’s Pain Management Department treat all types of pain, acute or chronic, including cancer pain and pain associated with many types of conditions such as headaches, back pain, fibromyalgia, spinal arthritis and post-stroke. Patients may be treated using one or a combination of therapies including medical interventions, psychological interventions, self-help, physical therapy or surgery. When pain can't be alleviated effectively through these therapies, patients may be referred to the four-week Pain Management Program, the only multi-disciplinary pain program in this part of the country.

Seeking treatment early

Reaching the patient early is an important factor in providing the most effective pain relief. The longer individuals wait to seek treatment, the more difficult it becomes to treat pain. After months or years of chronic pain, the body generates a map to pain that is difficult to break. The pain receptors change and what may have been a problem that could have been treated very easily, now becomes much more complicated. The Pain Clinic can help find treatment needed.
