18-year-old Brandon Millbrook received a liver, small bowel and pancreas transplant at The Nebraska Medical Center in August of 2013. With the help of the hospital's Music Therapy program, Brandon was able to free-style a rap song about his transplant process. Music therapy consists of: singing, song writing, instrument play, listening to music, movement to music and lyric analysis. Research shows, music therapy can be used to reduce anxiety, pain, feelings of isolation and trauma. It also promotes positive family interactions and sibling/parent support. In Brandon's case, music therapy was a way for him to connect with the staff at the hospital. Brandon says, "music keeps me happy and not sad."
