Polo For Patients
Polo for Patients is an extraordinary event benefiting The Nebraska Medical Center's Patient Assistance Fund. When resources such as insurance, Medicaid, family, church and community funds are depleted, the Patient Assistance Fund helps patients and family members by providing financial assistance for basic needs such as lodging, meals and transportation. The 2012 event was held June 9 at Levi Carter Park. The day began with a champagne reception followed by lunch. The Des Moines Polo Club demonstrated the skills of players and their horses, showing why this sport has been enjoyed for more than 2,000 years. More than 900 people attended this year's event, which brought in more than $500,000. The Patient Assistance Fund is funded entirely by charitable contributions. Since 2010, more than 1,800 patients and families have received assistance totaling more than $250,000.
