Lawnmower injuries are more common than you might think and are often preventable. Bellevue Medical Center emergency department Dr. Thomas Cheatle describes three basic rules for safely mowing the grass. First: no kids on riding mowers - EVER! Second, watch for debris like rocks, sticks and toys that can cause serious, even fatal injuries to the person mowing or others nearby. Third, watch your hands and feet. Wear protective shoes and never try to clear a clogged chute while the mower is running.
