Cardiac Cath Lab
Cardiac catheterization procedures are among the most common medical procedures performed in the United States. The cath lab is where pacemakers and coronary stents are placed.
Cardiologist Dr. Haysam Akkad explains what a patient can expect when undergoing a cath lab procedure at The Nebraska Medical Center. The process begins in a holding room where patients meet with a cath lab nurse and can ask any last minute questions of the cardiologist. During the procedure itself, patients are sedated but still awake.
