What Are Treatment Statistics for People with CML?
According to 2011 data from the American Cancer Society, these are the facts about leukemia and CML:
CML makes up about 10 to 15 percent of all leukemias.
About 5,150 people will be told they have CML in 2011.
About 270 people will die of CML this year.
The five-year survival rate for CML varies, depending on the phase of leukemia you have. Because effective treatments such as Gleevec were only introduced in 2001, it is not yet known how these drugs may affect long-term survival of people with CML. However, most people with CML who have been treated with these drugs since 2001 are still alive.
