Understanding the Types of Hodgkin’s Disease

Finding out which type of Hodgkin disease you have is an important step in choosing the best treatment. There are two different types of Hodgkin disease. They are based on the way the cells look under a microscope and their immune characteristics. Each type may occur in different age groups. And while they are all cancer, they don't all have the same prognosis.

Classical Hodgkin Disease (cHD)

Each classical type is treated in a similar way.

  • Nodular sclerosis (the most common form of Hodgkin disease)

  • Mixed cellularity

  • Lymphocyte-rich

  • Lymphocyte depletion

Nodular Lymphocyte Predominance Hodgkin Disease (NLPHD)

This type may be treated differently because it grows so slowly.
