Serious Medicine. Extraordinary Care.

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

If you want to make a very big difference in the life of a very small patient, you belong here

Our nurses in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) care for some of the sickest children in the world and have a significant impact on the lives of these young patients and their families. Our nursing philosophy is focused around family-centered care, in which nurses encourage and support patients and families to play an important role in the planning and delivery of care. This extraordinary family-centered care approach to nursing results in a higher quality of care which is one of the reasons our organ transplant program has been so successful and has an international reputation.

"I really enjoy taking care of children. They have so much to live for and it’s so rewarding to help them get better and live a good life. Not only are we making a difference in the lives of these children, but we are also making a difference in the lives of their families and they are a very important part of our care."

"I love being able to help the sickest of children and helping their families transition through a very difficult time. The families are always so appreciative of the work we do for them and their children. It’s a very fulfilling place to be."

"Taking care of acute children and their families is very rewarding. When you have seen them in their previous state and then they walk out of here and come back to visit later and they are healthy again – that’s gratifying."
