Cardiac Progressive Care Unit
The mission of the Cardiac Progressive Care Unit is to provide individualized, interdisciplinary, quality nursing care to patients with cardiac disease which exceeds customer expectations and includes patients and their families in the care planning process.
The Cardiac Progressive Care Unit is a unit with a hotel-like appearance that provides a warm, healing environment for our patients and their families. This state-of-the-art unit has 49 private rooms, central and decentralized nursing stations, education and conference rooms designed to maximize efficiency for staff and promote continuity of care for our patients. This universal design was based on input from our patients and their families, as well as the nursing, pharmacy and medical staff.
Registered nurses are accountable for all aspects of patient care and are assisted by unit clerks, patient care technicians, team leaders, case managers, a clinical nurse specialists and a clinical education coordinator. In addition to our unit resources, we work closely with a multidisciplinary team consisting of dedicated social workers, pharmacists, cardiac rehabilitation nurses, highly-specialized cardiologists and thoracic surgeons. Nurses are ALCS certified; they receive specialized training and expertise to manage patients with art lines, swan ganz catheters and numerous titratable cardiac drips.
The Cardiac Progressive Care Unit provides an intermediate level of care to cardiac patients with a variety of diagnoses, including coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, myocardial infraction, angina and arrhythmias. Post-operative care is provided to patients that have undergone open heart surgery, heart catherization/angioplasty, stents, heart transplantation and placement of pacemakers and defibrillators.
