Patient with Insurance Coverage

  1. The Nebraska Medical Center will submit a claim on your behalf.
  2. After you are discharged from the hospital or receive outpatient services at the hospital, you will receive a Detailed List of Charges. No payment is due from you at this time.

Please review the Detailed List of Charges carefully. If you have questions, please phone Patient Financial Services. Our billing customer service numbers are (402) 559-3140 and toll-free (888) 662-8662 (6:00AM to 5:30PM, Monday through Friday). To speak with a Billing Representative in person, you may visit us at the Patient Financial Services Office (120th and W. Center, Gordman Building) or the ACCESS Services Office in either the Clarkson Tower or University Tower of the hospital. Hours for these areas are 8:00AM to 4:30PM, Monday through Friday.   1. Your insurance company will send you an Explanation of Benefits summarizing the payment and the balance you are responsible for. If you have any questions about the amount paid, or not paid, by your insurance company, please call your insurance company's customer service number on the back of your insurance card or on the Explanation of Benefits
  2. After we receive the insurance payment, we will send you a Patient Liability Statement for any balance due.The patient liability amount on your Explanation of Benefits should match the patient liability amount for the same date of service on your hospital statement. If there is a discrepancy between these amount, please contact Patient Financial Services.

Patients with No Insurance Coverage

Several days after you are discharged from the hospital or receive outpatient services at the hospital, you will receive a Detailed List of Hospital Charges.

Payment for these services should be made after receiving the detailed list of charges or Patient Financial Services should be contacted to make arrangements for payment.

Hospital and/or Doctor Bills

Although some or all of your services may have been received at The Nebraska Medical Center, each doctor's group is a separate business and has its own billing procedures. You may receive a separate bill from physicians for their services. In some cases, you may receive a bill from a physician you did not see, for such services as radiology imaging review, pathology specimen analysis, consultations, and anesthesia during surgery.

In addition, you may receive a bill from The Nebraska Medical Center even if you did not visit the hospital. Your physician may have sent a specimen to our hospital lab for analysis.

Payment Options

Payments may be made by check, money order, or credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover, or American Express). Please return the top portion of your bill with your payment. If you are an employee of The Nebraska Medical Center you may make arrangements for payroll deduction by stopping at ACCESS Services or Patient Financial Services. If paying with a web-based or electronic payment system, please include your responsible party ID number with the payment.

Financial Assistance

If you do not have insurance, please contact ACCESS Services at (402) 552-3251 or toll free at (800) 552-8802 and arrangements can be made for a Financial Counselor to meet with you, or your family, to assess your financial needs and options. Financial assistance programs may be available to you. You may also contact a Customer Service Representative at (402) 559-3140 or toll free at (888) 662-8662 from 6:00AM to 5:30PM Monday through Friday to discuss financial assistance or make payment arrangements.
